The Lita Files:
Case 1: Murder in the Kitchen
Chapter One: Murder Discovered
The day was cold as ice, sending chills down my spine... The loud sounds of sirens sighed in the night, and the blue and red lights flashed against the neighbor’s shocked and confused faces...
The DO NOT ENTER yellow banner hung around the front of the house in a sad, shocking manner. I couldn’t believe this had happened to her...
“Lita!” An serious voice was heard from behind me and then he appeared beside me, looking sad. James had ruffled dirty blond hair, the kind that kept sticking up not matter how many times you patted it down or brushed it. Nonetheless... he had electric blue eyes that could send admiring chills down your whole body. He was a total hottie... and he still is. I have been working with him for about a year now. He was new on the field when I was... He was my first Partner and my only Partner so far... He takes my breath away sometimes... I even caught him once with his shirt off, total six pack... He reminds me of my old boyfriend.
Enough with the admiration... let’s get back to the whole point. We got a case to solve!!!
He knew her almost as well as I knew her... She always let us borrow her living room to figure out a case, while bringing in milk and cookies we couldn’t resist. Just about everyone back at the base knew her as well. She always donated cookies and sweets to the base. I’m gonna miss cooking with her...
“Come on, James.” I replied slowly as I waltzed into action. It was my job to figure out how, when, why, and the most important who? Or more like ours including James...
James rushed ahead, lifting the DO NOT ENTER yellow banner up so I could go under, and then he followed behind me. It all seemed unreal like a dream or like a Mystery Movie from the Sci-fi channel. I slowly walked up the steps I had been visiting ever since middle school...
“Have you guys gotten the body out already?”
“Yeah,” Replied a cubby police officer. “Kathy already checked the body before you guys got here... Mrs. Tsukino was the nicest lady on the block... Who would of wanted to do this to her?”
“That’s why we’re here,” I said in a confident voice. “Don’t forget to send her body up to the base, we ‘gotta do some scans and tests...”
“Yeah, first we’ll check out the house for any clues. After you guys get the body down to our base, you need to take her family down to the station for a while until the mess gets cleaned up. We’ll be down there as soon as we can to ask some questions.”
That was the James I knew. Cunning and Smart... I wonder if I sighed aloud!
“Alright. Good luck.” And the Police officer left.
A sigh came out from James’s mouth as I handed him a pair of gloves and retrieved some onto my own hands. “This is so sad, Lita... I can’t believe someone would have actually done this to poor Mrs. Tsunkino.”
“I know... Serena, Sammy, and Mr. Tsukino are just... aren’t going to be the same without her... Poor Serena...”
James smoothed back his dirty blond hair and gave me a small smile, “I’m sure they will be fine, Lita. Come on, they are depending on us.!”
I’m depending on you!
“Right.” I said but only offered a week smile and followed him down the short hall, examining the wall, the floor, and the ceiling. There seemed to be nothing. Nothing on the small coffee looking table with beautiful arranged flowers. Nothing on the wall telephone.
“Got anything, Lita?”
“Nope.”
“Come on, let’s move on,” He said as we walked into the living room, and we found nothing at all.
“The Kitchen is where the body was found right?”
“Right.” James said catching on as if he had never done this before.
“Well, it’s probably more than likely we will find evidence there...”
So we both walked into the eerie kitchen. The Kitchen was never eerie, as I remembered, always happy and cheerful because of Mrs. Tsunkino was always so cheerful and in it all the time... Poor Serena...
There was still blood on the floor that had slowly slid under the table. Jeez, that was gross... I could just imagine the cold, shocked face of Serena’s mother, Mrs. Tsunkino, lying on the floor, her apron covered in her own blood, the knife tilted in her body, the low evil laugh of the murder, then the slow footsteps out of the back door...
I shook myself out of it when James said, “Ugh, Kathy didn’t clean this up? Figures! Well, at least she left something for us to research...”
“Right,” I slowly pulled out a cotton ball, dabbed at the strolling blood until the cotton ball was engulfed in the cold blood, then I stuck it in a plastic bag and stuffed it in my coat pocket.
That’s when I saw it, a strand of dark, dark brown hair, almost black. “James! Get over here!”
Immediately, he rushed to my side and stared at the strand of hair twirling between my fingers. “That’s ‘gotta be the best thing we’ve found all night. Good job, Lita.” He put his hand on my shoulder and gave it a firm pat.
“Thanks, Girl’s were always the best detectives, look at Nancy Drew.” I said playfully but with a serious look on my face and put the strand in another plastic zip lock bag.
He grinned at me, “Don’t push it,” and he went back to searching the other side of the room...
“Is this all you’ve found? A piece of hair and some blood?” The chief, Bill Brison, said as we came in his office. Bill Brison was the kind of commander over the Detective Agency or Police force you would guess to see behind the desk, Big, Heavy-set, and always puffing on his cigar. Though he reminded me of Raye’s Grandpa. Short, almost bald and stubborn and liked to pick.
“Sadly, that was all we found at the house. Looks like it may be a hard case but there is a chance, Mr. Brison... We still haven’t checked the body for clues but right now we have to get down to the station for questioning.”
“Yeah... don’t want to keep them waiting...”
“James you have to question them, I just can’t... I wouldn’t be able to stand it...” Once we reached the police station. I could see past the glass window at the terrified family. Serena in tears, Her father hugging her, comforting her, with his own sad face, and Sammy, Poor Sammy shock was the only thing that stood on his face.
“But—“James said not wanting to deal with this family alone... but he knew Lita knew the family very well, as if she actually belonged to it, like she was a sister. “Alright. You go ahead down to the base and check out the body. I will be down there as soon as I can... Lita, It’ll be alright. We’re going to solve this Case.” He put his hand on my shoulder, trying to comfort me.
“James,” I said, staring out at the sad, shocked family. “... I’ll be going now.” And slowly I walked out of the room. If I took one more look at that family I think I would have had a major break down... It must be hard to lose your mother or the love of your life...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slowly, I walked out of the station and got into my black, shiny car. James liked to call it Raven. I smiled a little at the thought. It was great having James around when dealing with these horrible, sad cases we have to take care of.
Once I arrived at the base the place was dark but the white lights still shown on the base’s name: Tokyo Detective Agency. I parked the car and got out, heading for the front door. The Agency wasn’t very huge from the outside look, but it actually had three floors, two under ground. Even though it looked friendly from the outside... inside it held some of the most horrid cases in Tokyo, Japan ever, actually all mystery cases.
I took out my key and unlocked the door and then entered. “Hey, Joey.” I smiled as I walked past the security counter.
“Hey Lita! They sent the body in about three hours ago, it’s down on the second floor. Good luck.” Joey tipped his Security hat at me with a wink and a friendly smile. Joey was a nice guy. Blue hair like Amy’s and black eyes like Raye’s. He is probably in his 30s’. He is a bit too skinny for his own good though. He needs to hang out more with Serena to eat more.
I smiled at the thought but when the picture of the blood on the tile floor drifted in my mind, it faded. Serena would be too sad to share her donuts with anyone... Serena would be weeping too much to even notice anyone.
“Thanks and James should be showing up in a while,” I replied, moving towards the elevator and pressed down. It immediately opened. No one ever comes in about this time unless there is a huge case going on. I stepped into the elevator and pressed two and watched as the door closed quietly.
A soft BING was heard and the doors opened again and I stepped out onto shinny white tiles and two black doors in front of me. I stepped up to the side of the doors where a pad with numbers was placed.
“Name Please and Information.” Stated a Computer like voice.
“Lita. Agent 492.”
“Confirm your code, Lita.”
I pressed in a couple of numbers; the code to the room of the dead as James and I used to call it.
532300
“Code Confirmed.”
The two black doors slide open and I walked through and they closed with a click. James found this room to be the best place to scare poor ol' me, Lita. If he thinks he is gonna scare me, he is in for it.
My mind drifted off as I walked down a short hall and turned into a room on the left. The room was eerie and dark. There was a strolling bed in the middle of the room, covered with a white sheet and then there was a bunch of shelves off to the right, cabinets to the left, and a huge counter on the other wall.
I turned on the light switch and the room’s darkness seemed to scatter into the corners where it would save them or it was death, and the rest of the room was lit well for a good re-search. I walked over to the counter and pulled on the white plastic gloves after washing my hands thoroughly. “Okay...” I sighed in a deep breath. I slowly trotted over to the strolling bed and pulled back the sheet.
