Othello is a manga by Ikezawa Satomi...not sure if there is an anime..XD This is the story of Yaya-chan, a very lonely and depressed girl. She has no real friends (those she does have pick on her a lot) and her mother passed away when she was little. She lives with her father, who is very over-protective of her, and doesn't let her stay out late, so she has no social life. She has always been picked on by her classmates because of her silly name, and her shy personality doesn't help much. She is easily intimidated. She does have one means of escape from her depressing reality. She is a big fan of visual rock music (especially a band called 'Juliet',) and after school some days she likes to go to Harajuku and cosplay as a member from a visual rock group. It's a very goth look. Things sort of look for Yaya, when a cute classmate of hers, a boy who is the lead singer of a band, befriends her and tries to get her interest in some of his favorite music, including Led Zepplin. However the story takes a strange turn, when Yaya finally cracks under the constant harrassment. She is being attacked by some boys in a karaoke club one day when Yaya finally just... changes. In the blink of an eye, a new personality emerges. She is now 'Nana' and she is tough, confident, and in charge. Nana can do things that Yaya could never do. Nana beats up the boys and takes care of all of Yaya's problems. How will Yaya live with this new, super-confident alternate personality? Who will be the dominant one, and who is the REAL Yaya? I've only read the first volume. But, the artwork kinda looks like Peach Girl. XD

In the pic, I cant figure out which one is Yaya, and Nana.. Is the one dressed in black Yaya~ since she cosplays as a goth? I think Yaya is a cute name XD (I call someone that irl)

hehe, yaya is a cute name..XD But, the girl with the lighter hair is yaya. And the girl with the darker hair is nana. ^_^" But, when she cosplays, she still looks like herself. It's kinda complicated. I got confused reading the manga. My friend had to explain it to me.

Neat Summary..at first, I thought it was similiar to Hotaru's life (From Sailormoon). Some parts still sounds a lil confusing for me ^^;;
Isn't Yaya and Nana the same person? Did she suddenly become permanently stuck with a new personality and attitude...or is it something strange, like actually two differernt people where they both take control of the body? and switch back personalities throughout? Why a new name?

I'm guessing its like Aya turning into Ceres~ a different person... they are the same person; but their presonality are different, and they have a different name, and look different.

Yaya and Nana are the same person, so I guess it could be like Aya and Ceres. ^_^" Yaya just happens to have two personalities. But, she's not two seperate bodies. XD Hope that makes sense. lol. They aren't permanently stuck. Eventually, she goes back to herself. But, Yaya usually doesn't' know what happens when nana takes over.

I think that the name 'Othello' may be a reference to the game as opposed to Shakespeares play. Othello is a game involving black and white pieces where the two sides duke it out for dominance of the board. Kinda like Noughts and Crosses almost, only larger scale and you can turn any piece either black or white... I think it's on Yahoo! Games.

yerah,blu's suggestiong makes alot more sense than a relation to shakespere, though with a band called "julliet" there may be a refrence to shakespere. double meaning maybe?

wow that sounds so awesome! I've never even heard of it before but it sounds great and the art looks really kool. Aw, Yaya is such a sweet name! But Nana kinda sounds like what someone would call their grandmother lol

The game was named after the play because the fact that Othello is black in a society where white people were seen as superior is a major theme of the play. The summary of the story isn't really the same as the play though. Anywayz, the manga looks kinda cool... i'd buy it

uh, please ignore the double (triple ) post: they were done at really different times) I bought this from Forbidden Planet today and read the entire thing in about an hour. It's really, really, really, really good! I'd put it right up there with 'Excellent'! The drawings are really beautiful and... I just adore it!! Take up and read, take up and read! (ok. now is not the time to quote from conversions but still... doooo it!). I cannot begin to describe how much I enjoyed it...!!!

XD That's nice to hear SC. ^_^" I've only read the first and second volume. They might get a little confusing...because you're not really sure when she changes from yaya to nana, or nana back to yaya. o.O confused me a lot.

It was, but i got the hang of it after a while... I thought at first she changed her appearance when she became nana (from the pic on the front) but she doesn't, she only looks like that when she's cosplaying. It also took me a while to get that she couldn't remember what nana did - I thought she was just pretending, but no... I'm gonna go read it again... *loves*
