Something I found worth the read, they're basically opinions and some are facts ^_^:
-----------------------
Sailor MoonStarted: 7th of March 1992
Finished: 27th of February 1993
Consists of: Episodes 1-46
The first TV series which introduced the characters and the battle with Queen Beryl and the Dark Kingdom. Although the ratings were slow to begin with, it gradually began to pick up - particularly with the introduction of Sailor Mercury in episode 8 and Sailor Mars in episode 10.
Sailor Moon R (Returns)Started: 6th of March 1993
Finished: 5th of March 1994
Consists of: Episodes 47-89
The original season proved to be such a success, it jumped straight into a second season (although the letters of some angry mothers regarding the deaths of their children's favourite characters may have had something to do with it). Sailor Moon R premieres a week after the original series concludes
The Sailor Scouts are revived to face a pair of evil twins (eps 47-59) and then a threat to the future of Tokyo in the form of the Black Moon family (60-88). This series introduced Chibi-Usa (Rini) who is a young girl who seems to get in Usagi’s way. It is only later that Chibi-Usa is revealed to be Usagi’s daughter who has arrived from the future to be trained as a Sailor Warrior.
This series also introduced the first of the outer senshi, a group of senior Sailor Scouts who only appear in times of great need, with
Sailor Pluto: Setsuna is the Guardian of the Gate of Time. She has black hair, likes black frills and has an attack called Dead Scream (welcome to the morbid corner).
Sailor Moon R (Movie - 1993)The first theatrical outing of Sailor Moon has an alien child befriending a boy who later becomes Tuxedo Mask. When these two meet as adults, a misunderstanding leads to disaster.
This movie also introduced Kunihiko Ikuhara as director - who would later create the TV series Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Sailor Moon S (Super)Started: 19th of March 1994
Finished: 25th of February 1995
Consists of: Episodes 90-127
Once again, the Sailor Warriors are called to defeat another foe of incredible power: Professor Tomoe and the Witches 5 (the Deathbusters)
This series is notable for introducing Chibi-Usa as Sailor Chibi Moon and the rets of the outer senshi:
- Neptune: Michiru has green hair and aqua-coloured frills. She is best known for being involved with a lesbian relationship with Sailor Uranus (they’re not cousins as the English dub described them as)
- Uranus: Haruka is a short-haired blonde who wears dark blue frills. She seems to be the male in the Uranus/Neptune relationship as she wears male clothes, rides a motorcycle and flirts with Usagi, Rei and Minako (women eh?).
- Saturn: Perhaps the most powerful of the Sailor Warriors, Hotaru can both heal wounds and destroy worlds. She has short dark hair and indigo frills and targeted as the Dark Messiah in the series – which then splits the Sailor Warriors with infighting.
It was here that Ikuhara tested some ideas for Utena, one of which being the afore-mentioned lesbian relationship between Neptune and Uranus. Unsurprisingly, this idea sparked a lot of controversy.
Sailor Moon S (Movie – 1994)A strange entity in the Sailor Moon canon which involves Luna falling in love with a young astronomer and becomes involved in saving the world from a great evil.
Sailor Moon SS (Super S)Started: 4th of March 1995
Finished: 25th of Feburary 1996
Consists of: Episodes 128-166
Here, the villain was Nephrenia and the Dead Moon Circus
This series also marked a change with the series: Realising that the original audience was growing up and losing interest, the producers decided to return to their original target audience by placing Chibi-Usa as the chief protagonist. Consequently, Chibi-Usa was paired up with her father Endymion and becomes quite keen to sacrifice her life for his. But as Chibi-Usa was very unpopular, the show struck rock-bottom with interest. Matter weren’t helped with the confusion caused by Ikuhara road-testing more abstract ideas that would later resurface in Utena.
Sailor Moon SS (Movie – 1995)The third and final Sailor Moon movie which has Chibi-Usa becoming attracted to a strange character who acts like the Pied-Piper: He leads local children to a spaceship and the Sailor Warriors must stop him.
This movie came accompanied by a small feature about Sailor Mercury entitled Ami-chan’s first love (Obviously to keep her fans happy)
Sailor Moon Sailor Stars (1996)Started: 16th of March 1996
Finished: 2nd of August 1997
Consists of: Episodes 167-200
The final season of Sailor Moon has Chibi-Usa leaving to return to the future, Tuxedo Mask leaving to study at Harvard and the remaining Sailor Warriors finishing off Nephrenia (167-172 in what is often regarded as the true ending to Super S). Later on (173-200), the Sailor Warriors face a group of evil Warriors called Shadow Galactia consisting of Galaxia, Iron Mouse, Aluminium Siren, Lead Crow and Tin Nyanko.
The Sailor Warriors are aided by the Three Lights – a three-piece boy band who turn into leather-clad girls (eh?!) in times of danger (Allegedly, Takeuchi wasn't very happy with this addition). Incidentally, this season is the shortest of all the Sailor Moon TV seasons.
