Name: M I R O K U
Age: 19
Hair Colour: Black
Eye Colour: Violet
First Appearance: Chapter 51, Episode 16
Seiyuu: Tsujitani Kouji
Miroku is the second person to join Kagome and Inuyasha on their quest to find the Shikon no Tama shards. He caused a lot of trouble for everyone, especially since this was the first time that they had met a non-youkai individual who was looking for the shards for a purpose that wasn't evil. Miroku kept to himself for a while but after the incident with the artist who was making many oni out of ink, Miroku became a permanent member of the team.
Miroku, to put it lightly, can be summed up as a letch. He may be a Buddhist priest but he certainly doesn't act like one. ^^ He uses his status as a priest to manipulate rich families into giving him free food and board and on top of that, he's an extreme womanizer. Miroku takes every chance he gets to ask any beautiful woman he comes across to bear his child. Unlike other famous letches in anime- Miroku's letchery often goes rewarded to some extent, much to the displeasure of Sango.
Despite his delinquent antics, Miroku is a valuble asset to the team. His skills and knowledge alike help out in more ways than one and without him... well, the series just wouldn't be the same, would it? ^_-
There's more to Miroku than what meets the eye. To some he's a well-mannered and charming monk while to others, he's a bad-mouthed delinquent. The face that he shows the most often is that of a polite young man, eager to help those in need. While this isn't necessarily untrue, Miroku isn't all that polite. His politeness is more or less a mask that he puts on to impress women and manipulate people into giving him what he wants. In reality, when talking or thinking to himself, his language is very much similar to that of Inuyasha's.
When Miroku needs a place to stay for the night, he usually approaches the residency of a wealthy family, telling them that he senses an evil presence there and he'll exterminate in exchange for something. More often than not, there is no evil presence and Miroku is just using his status as a monk to get free food and a free place to stay at over night. While this appears to be less than holy, Miroku is not without excuse. He's had to live an extremely hard life, knowing that he'll die a horrible death some day. Getting free food and board from wealthy families is Miroku's way of pampering himself. He feels that, because of his status and hardships, a little white lie won't hurt anyone and in some cases, it's rather convenient.
As a Buddhist priest, Miroku shouldn't have to ask for payments in return for things that he does for people, especially when the people he helps the most are poor villagers. By asking wealthy families, he's doing no harm and he doesn't have to pry money out of the hands of people who have little.
As for his abilities as a monk, Miroku doesn't think much of them. While his powers may impress others, it's normal for him. Unlike Inuyasha, Miroku doesn't gloat about his powers or brag about them, which shows that Miroku is actually a rather humble individual. Even so, despite being humble, Miroku is also confident. He's aware of his abilities and limitations and when he's sure that he can take on a youkai and win, he usually comes out on top of things. There are exceptions but Miroku never rushes into a situation where he couldn't handle himself. Again, this is something that makes him much different than Inuyasha.
What do you guys think of him? I think this character is funny XD
