What's actually good about them that makes them popular? People say they're classics.. but there's not really much of a storyline in them... o.o Is there an underlying theme to them all that I just havent figured out yet? I've seen My neighbour Totoro, and I find it rather cute :3 I've seen trailers for the other ones, and it just doesnt seem all that appealing.. I must say I do like the music in it ^_^;; Here's a page which lists the collection of anime/film they've created: www.onlineghibli.com/films.phpWhat do you guys think of them?

Ghibli is the name of the company, yeah? Studio Ghibli? I have seen the cute lil creatures that they use for the Ghibli logo (they're from My Neighbour Toronto, right?) and some merchandising... And Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke of course (love them)... I liked the animation in SA and PM, I haven't seen enough of Ghibli's work to know much more though... To be honest I never thought about it much, I just saw the name at the beginning of the films like I see lots of studio names...

Are they all by Miyazaki? The music is very good..though, sadly, I kinda like the dubbed themes better...at least for the ones I've seen. I've seen Spirited Away, Princess Monoke- kinda freaked me out...so much blood. XD, Kiki's Delivery Service is my absolute fav. My Neighbor Totoro is one I want to see...Cat Returns is also pretty good. The animation in all of them is very good. Though...sometimes, the movie doesn't seem to be one of Ghibli's...like Cat Returns. XD

The Cat Returns is alright...but, I find it a little on the weird side..the whole saving a cat...turning into a cat, becoming a cat's wife? XD

I've watched all the Ghibli films, except for 'Panda go panda' and 'Lupin'.
Sure Totoro is a very innocent and simple, most Ghibli films are meant to evoke fantasy and magic. I think you should give Ghibli films a chance before knocking them. If your looking for one with more adult themes I suggest watching Princess Mononoke (I think you will enjoy this one), it is a popular Ghibli film and is easy to get into, Ghibli fan or not.
'Grave of fireflies' is probably too heavy for a first Ghibli film to get into. But it is far from lacking storyline and themes. It is probably one of the most powerful anti-war film/animation ever made. When I went to Hiroshima, everything I saw in the museum reminded me of the film; burnt and tattered clothing of children who died after the bombing; shadows of a person sitting outside the bank burnt into the stonewall by the radiation; poverty and sickness. It would be hard not to shed a tear after watching this animation.
....I love Ghibli@.@

Since my first post (err....4 years ago) I've only seen one other Studio Ghibli film- 'Grave of fireflies'. I was told but every person on this earth that it would be really sad and that I'll definitely cry. The story was obviously very depressing.. but in the end I didn't cry at all.. Maybe it's because I'm expecting something REALLY REALLY sad, cause it's been hyped so much? I don't know... I was a bit disappointed to find that the ending was going to be predictable as it was...it was quite a long film and it felt more like a documentary. I was watching the whole way thinking 'omg, they're gonna die!'..but after 2 hours.. and they're still hanging around doing what they started doing along while ago, I was just waiting for the end to come. No offense to fans of Studio Ghibli, cause they obviously have a lot of fans since it's so popular. I guess I just don't know how to appreciate their works as others. Not from the 2 series I've seen so far anyways. I might give Princess Mononoke a go oneday.

Oh beww... that's a shame. =(
I went to the Studio Ghibli museum in Mitaka Japan which was I thought was sooo amazing, but maybe because I'm a big fan. Maybe I will post some photos up of the Museum. They didnt let us take photos of the inside of the museum, which was what was fantastic. All the houses around Mitaka looked like the ones in Sailormoon xD
