haha.. is that a sarcastic comment Karmy? As in.. are you serious, or are you saying you didn't learn a thing? Kinda funny.. I think this theme is about family- as it deals with the relationship of the little kids, and their mum and dad. It's also children fantasy like. When you were a little kid, didn't you always imagine things, like create your own worlds? (If not then.. umm....dont' worry- I'm just strange ) It's fascinating in that only little kids, can see Totoro.. Tototo himself is so innocent. It's a nice thought of having a friend when you're a little kid. He did save the day

Very true..it's not like Totoro is dangerous or anything. Totoro acts like a protector of those little kids. There's innocence in the young children...
What are those black poofy, dust creatures? Are they supposed to be associated with the magical Totoro, or are they merely just targets of fascination for the kids because of their unfamiliarity to new homeland?

i have no idea what the black poofy things are, but i was told it could be dust or moths by a friend.this is so nostalgic, i watched it 8 or 10 years ago and oh so adorable! i bought one of the toys/ a mini-version of totoro and i lost it.... sigh! ooh, i want to watch it again!!!
