Did anybody go see the new movie yet? I didn't even realize it came out already.. It's supposedly bad...but, the cards they use in the movie seem to actually look like the trading card series. I don't get why they changed that...

The YuGiOh movie is specifically targeted at the Western Audience (namely its children) in an exercise to see how much cash they can pump out of those cows (i.e. the general public). Hence anything that is unusual for something in YuGiOh is because its isn't targeted at Japanese Audiences anymore, just the West. ((Sorri sorri - - I'm being very critical here of the conspicuous consumption culture we have here - - also - - Magician Valkyria hehe))

woow.... *doesn't mind being spoiled* that looks very good... what saga is that (as in what time in the anime does the movie take place. Kaiba is wearing the same thing as he did in the Marik saga, so I'm guessing it's somewhere there)? I'm guessing that's the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon - looks very elegant- what's it power/abilities? and I'm also assuming the other card is the Pyramid of Light. what does that do? So, what does the japanese card look like? (ie how is it different to the cards that you can buy? different picture and/or colours or wording?) looks very interesting

well, I'm not exactly sure when it takes place, since as I haven't seen it. But, I think it's after the Battle City Season.... I'm guessing that's the Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon - looks very elegant- what's it power/abilities? and I'm also assuming the other card is the Pyramid of Light. what does that do? uh, I've got no idea. ^_^" Like I said before, haven't seen the movie. So, what does the japanese card look like? (ie how is it different to the cards that you can buy? different picture and/or colours or wording?) looks very interesting Well, if you remember in the series, the cards are very simple, and don't have explanations of what the cards do on the bottom of the cards as the english cards that we can buy do. Well..I'm not exactly sure how the japanese cards look like, pretty sure they look the same, but usually they would use the cards with a very simple look.

I remember that, although I thought it was because there was little point in making the viewers read the text - they'd rather explain it themselves, and also the abilities of the cards in the beginning weren't really proper... eg. the Labyrinth card (0/3000) being able to change the field, or copycard being able to copy any card when it's only a monster and can only copy attack and defense... I'm guessing the real japanese cards will have japanese text explaining the cards abilities, but if it's targeted at a Western audience, I guess this little bit of detail is important, (I thought the colour was also a bit different...)

Let's do a card comparison between the Japanese and the English card ^^, using the all-time most collectable card the Dark Magician Girl! This would be the Japanese Ultra Rare Dark Magician Girl ((image borrowed from thejapanesestore.com)) The next image is of the US-Edition Secret Rare Dark Magician Girl ((borrowed from E-Bay)): You'll notice the location of the ATK and DEF values are different, not to mention some editing the ((*cough* American *cough*)) Censors(sp?) did. If you look closely you'll find it - - its in the Art. They done this editting on various other cards also... (there are people who like it - - the rest hate it. LMAO!)

that's true... I didn't notice that the images were edited... just out of curiosity, is the dark magician girl really that popular or rare? I don't really find it that great a card (unless you make a deck of d magicians and d magician girls) or is it because of the art?

I own the japanese card of Black Magician Girl which is a rare card, not that good, but rare. It took me awhile to find it. I do have a few Dark Magician Girl cards since they are not as rare as the japanese cards.

Another issue, the D magician girl sure doesn't look very dark (in my opinion ) and is that symbol behind her the same one on the metamorph card?

Her japanese name is Black Magician Girl because she uses Black Magic I guess... The name is changed for the same reason as the Black Moon to The Dark Moon and Black Lady to Wicked Lady in Sailor Moon R.
