Basically, Animatrix is a continuation of the Matrix storyline, filling in the lines between the three movies Cheers

Well, actually, no. I don't think so, at least. And it's more than one story thing. They're a bunch of little short cartoonish things that, like timekeeper said, fills in the lines between the movies...

I love the animatrix.. it was so awesome.. yeah sure some parts probably wouldn't make sense to people... but I thought it was beautiful. Anyways if you love the Matrix and understand it then you'll have no problem with this..

Well, I don't think it's on TV. At least, it shouldn't be yet because it just came out on DVD a few months ago. It's not like a series or anything, just a few short stories on a DVD that were suppose to hold you over untill the next Matrix came out, I guess.

Here is what I could find about:
Taking the characters and premise from the groundbreaking science-fiction film, THE MATRIX, this ambitious project compiles nine short films directed by animation specialists from Japan, Korea, and America. The action is rapidly paced and combines different styles of animation from CGI to anime to more traditional animation, producing a unique and varied look even more stunning than its predecessor. A sampling of the talent includes MATRIX creators Larry and Andy Wachowski, Yoshiaki Kawajiri (NINJA SCROLL), Peter Chung (AEON FLUX), and Shinchiro Watanabe (COWBOY BEBOP).

the animatrix has nothing to do with the matrix trilogy...i got it on dvd =)...it basically just answers some of the q's about the martix....like how it was created...newaiz here's a summary for each epidsode on the dvd.
1. Final Flight of the Osiris The crew of the hovercraft Osiris must get a msg back to Zion, a msg of vital importance. Easy to do, but for the armada of Sentinels between them and Zion.
2. The Second Renaissance Part One and Two The genesis of the Matrix: The last cities of mankind, the war with the machines and humanity's ultimate downfall. An epic guide of the Zion archives and the history of the Matrix.
3. Kid's Story Sitting in his high school classroom, THE KID gets a personalised invitation from Neo to escape the Matrix. But finding an exit proves more difficult than he ever imagined.
4. Program In the simulated world of a Samurai training program, CIS, a soldier of Zion, is forced to choose between love and her comrades in the real world.
5. World Record THrough an incredible combination of will-power and physical strength, DAN, a world-record holding srpinter, breaks out of the MAtrix and gets an all-too-brief glimpse of the real world beyond.
6. Beyond In a quiet town where all is not as it seems, YOKO finds a bug in the system: an abandoned mansion in which anything seems possible. And then the exterminators arrive to de-bug.
7. A Detective Story Hard-boiled private investigator ASH tracks cybercriminal TRINITY through the looking glass.
8. Matriculated A small group of rebels have captured a sentient robot and proceed to program it as an ally for their cause. They succed too well in teaching the robot to prefer their "human matrix" to machine reality. And the robot's appetite for the "human matrix" may exceed the humans' ability to supply it.
Nine short films to grasp a more complete understanding of The Martrix.
Enjoy.

Well, it's related to the Matrix... although it's a group of miscellaneous stories about other people and their relationship with the Matrix. Somehow I believe it to be the inevitable future if mankind creates robots and try to dump them after developing better AI. They would be smart enough to rebell and start a war. If humans black out the sun the robots will have no choice but to use humans as an energy source. It somehow all makes sense. However I'm not sure why the robots would bother creating the Matrix to pitcture for us a happy life if they hate us... Anyways the main point of interest for me was how the sky was gone and the Matrix was created. I'm not sure how the rest of the clips relate to the other 2 movies because I've only watched the first one. (The first clip was similar to scene at the end of Matrix 1 except they fail...) I think the Animatrix is more just animation than anime, and some of the scenes were quite disturbing...
