Yui Hongo, the one character who changes a lot in terms of personality... what do you all think of her? Do you think its reasonable/justifyable how/why she turned against her best friend? Was she ever likable to begin with? Please mark all spoilers

I hated Yui when she turned on Miaka and became the Seiryuu no Miko. She was just jealous because Miaka and Tamahome were together. She really had no reason to betray Miaka. I do feel a bit sorry for her because Nakago pretty much manipulated her into believing it was Miaka's fault that she was 'raped' by the thugs.

She reminded me of Haruka from BSSM..lol, but anyways, I didn't really like Miaka or Yui to start off with so..*shrugs* I don't really blame her for what she's doing. She saw Miaka- her bestfriend as the one who betrayed her to start off with, and she was in a much disadvantage position compared to how Miaka survived in that world. Yui thought Miaka was the one who left her, when Yui cared so much about Miaka. In the part where Miaka talks to Tamahome thru the glass, Miaka didn't even mention to Tamahome about saving Yui. Also, its not like Yui should have trusted her friend more, because she thought it had proven the other dude wrong (forgot his name), but then she heard and 'saw' that Miaka say herself, that she only came back to be with tamahome......
There's also misunderstanding there involved~ like Yui didn't know only an evening passed in their world, compared to 3 months there.

yeah.. I agree with DS, and I don't exactly hate her character..find her alirght, esp for a villain... The whole part with Tamahome spending time with Yui showed her jealousy some bit...cause shes quite desperate to take him away from Miaka. She doesn't want to lose to Miaka since Miaka gets all the good, while she's got it all the hard way~ which I do feel sorry for.
I think its a little strange how Yui can 'love' Tamahome so much and yet hardly spent anytime with him prior to him moving in o.o Then, I sorta came up with the solution that because Yui was reading the book, she placed herself in Miaka's position and fell in love with him as a character... normally when people read books, they emphasise with the main character, and move along the story with him/her~ just like how we're watching the series and loving the characters..even though we're watching/reading from a third person's perspective. Yui loves Tamahome as a character from a book... I think ^^;;

hm..Yui is okay I guess...at the beginning she was 'nice'. But, the whole series is based on a stupid misunderstanding. >.<" Which takes forever to resolve. And isn't Miaka her best friend? How come Yui trusts Nakago over Miaka anyways? XD
...sorry I think I went off topic. lol

Yup...good point... the misunderstanding is growing and growing.... you'd think talking would solve the whole problem.. though they tried to talk and it didn't work out (more like Yui didn't want to listen to Miaka's 'lies') But since they're best friends...(well, were best friends) shouldn't she at least feel a little guilty? I mean, would she honestly want to kill Miaka?

I mean, would she honestly want to kill Miaka? Well, I suppose that happens near the end xD ~the talk~ Its quiet obvious that the author favours Miaka over Yui..I mean, they even made Miaka have Tamahome at the end and getting into the high school shre really wanted, while Yui couldn't even get in +_+

*The truth behind Yui spoiler*
I was very shocked to find out that Yui did not really get raped by the thugs from the begininng... but it makes sense now since when Taijinkun showed the others what happened to Yui through the mirror, they only saw the beginning part, and stopped looking (if they did they would have seen that Nakago has already saved her, but then again; who'd want to watch such a scene?)
On another hand, when Taijinkun said that Miaka needed to be a virgin on order to summon Suzaku.. I didn't put the two pieces together... There was no way Yui could have been raped, or else how would she be able summon?

Thinking about it... I think Miaka seems the strongest out of Yui and her... Remember how in the begining, where they both got in the world? Miaka is the one that protects her. and remember how Miaka experience the same thing is Yui when she was attacked by other thugs and they all planing to rape her as well, but she's strong enough to fight them until Tamahome came and help her, while Yui at the other hand is weak and all she can do is run =.= and at the end she blame her "unfortunate" to Miaka >_> ... when i think up to this part, Yui is a annoying girl that don't try to understand her best friend and the other unfortunate that comes to herself, all she think about is Miaka and Tamahome ... which really annoys me.

True... she only knows how to run... good point >_> *spoiler*She was unfortunate to run into Nakago who started everything... but it was also thanks to him she didn't get raped.. why is it that there's so many rapest there? Anyways... I was wondering, would Yui really get raped had those people tried? She is a priestess more or less... look what happened to Miaka when Nakago tried to rape her, a bright red light appeared protecting her.

Thinking about it... I think Miaka seems the strongest out of Yui and her... Remember how in the begining, where they both got in the world? Miaka is the one that protects her. ..lol..I thought those parts were just to show Miaka was more of the aggressive type xD while yui was the girly one. It would be more disturbing if Yui was the bashing type of person and Miaka was all the innocent goodie-goodie. This just suddenly popped up..since Yui didn't get raped the sotry is a bit more similiar to Miaka's situation...Miaka was about to get raped by the thugs, and Tamahome saves her...while on the other hand, Yui was about to get raped when Nakago saved her too. I used to think it was unfair that Miaka had all those protecting her like Tamahome while Yui had to suffer alot (e.g the raping)..now its just..Nakago the one to blame for manipulating her. If he wasn't so evil and power hungry, (only saved her and not lied to her, nor manipulate her), Yui and Miaka could have worked things out between the country and have no war at all, but it was her hatred and changed everything..

tha'ts a very good point =.= but then Nakago wasn't planning to save the contry as a senshi should in the first place. All he want is revenge to the contry that killed and raped his mum. Kinda feel sorry for him in the end, and pitying him for his stupid and unreasonable thoughts of avenging his mum.

erm.. not exactly sure about that part... he was taken into the Palace when he was really young then they said something about him being pretty or something? They were probabaly fascinated he was foreigner (much like Miaka was when she first saw him)...and then yeh; the next second we see him scared in bed... maybe the King was interested? eww >_> Gosh that doesn't sound right!I'm not surprised why he killed the king~ I wonder if the fact Seiryu was the God of War the reason why the celestial warriors protecting Seiryu sorta think on the more evil side. Seiryu seems to be the only one with a thinking problem. lol..this has gone so off topic, but it's interesting to talk about neverthless ^^'

I've been watching the OVAS (on the second one at the moment) and I find Yui quite a likeable character, a lot nicer than she was in the anime series. She also looks sorta prettier with her longer hair, and there's resemblance to Aya from Ayashi no Ceres even. At first I was annoyed by her grown hair, but then because she looks a bit different, I don't have to dislike her as much as I did when watching the series.. she's almost a different character.
