wow, I never knew there an actual channel (pay tv I assume?) that's subbed. the subtitles should be of high quality then (eg. not to low on the screen, easy to read font, large, good colour etc.) Yeah..there really is..in AXN! hehe..^^

I prefer Sub over Dubbed anyday ^_^;; Well.. yeah, I must admit I use to like Dubbed.. (not only in English, but like Sakura said- also in Chinese..hehe) Especially the English dubbed for sailormoon (as an example).. they ruined the story which bad voices.. and they changed what they were initially suppose to say That's just...wrong.

I do prefer subs to dubs but some dubs are good. I like the Tenchi Muyo dub better than the sub.

I agree with Chibi Jen. The english version of Sailor Moon is terrible and the story is totally ruined. When I saw the subbed version, I was a lil confused. I'll watch Sailor Moon subbed anyday!

Is it just me, or are the dubbed English versions are now sticking with the original Japanese names? O.o With Sailormoon.. they practically changed all the names, whereas other anime such as Ranma.. Inuyasha stick to the original? I mean.. if they're gonna dub it.. at least stay with the right names..

I mean.. if they're gonna dub it.. at least stay with the right names.. I guess that's true...new anime dub that I've seen have usually kept the original japanese names....like, gundam seed and inuyasha. Maybe Sailor Moon is just the oddball..though, it was targeted for smaller kids at the beginning, so maybe that's why they changed it.

Yeah they also changed the names for the characters in Hamtaro too. I also heard that the main human character (I always forget her name ) was actually younger than the age that the US version gave her. I think she's like 5 in the Japanese version and 10 in the english version.

When considering dubbed or subbed versions, we need to consider the fact that in "dubbed" version, there is a possibility of the storyline changed, since they do "cutting scenes" and dialogue may vary, which means the orginal story created may have been modified.

I hate when that happens! They did that with the dubbed Cardcaptor Sakura! I mean they first air episode 7 as episode 1 and then sometimes they aired lets say episode 5 as episode twenty-something. The dubbed version also cut out the crushes that Sakura and Syaoran had on Yukito.

The reason they change the names for series like Sailor Moon, CCS, Pokemon, Digimon, etc is due the fact they air on TV. So it's pretty much to nerf it for the American public as cartoons. (which any anime fan hates to death) Tenchi Muyo and Ranma though old, were video releases only so they kept the true names even if pronounces terribly.
Anyway provided subs are accurate, which fansubs are these days in fact often better then the 'professional' dvd releases, subbed is much, much better. Generally after you get used to reading you'll find the Jap voice actors are just plain superior to US ones. Dubs CAN be better and theoredically should be equal, but even though they're provided for a niche market US distributors still feel the need to Americanise stuff make it pretty much crap by changing the scripts and jokes Also nothing is more irritating then Kensai dialects being tranlated into a murderously irriating Texan twangy crap. But Americanisation aside 90% of english voice actors just can't voice act well. They either have a total lack of emotion or think overacting is putting life into a character. There are only handful of series which I think are done well: Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing, Excel Saga. Hellsing is just about the only thing I think is actually superior dubbed since they took pains to actually provide British acents accurate to the settings, and shock horror! They got people who could control emotions! If you're just getting into anime dubbed is good to 'ween' you in, I know it worked for me. But trust me after you've started watching fansubs go back and rewatch your old horde of DVDs with subs and it'll be a different story.

I like both. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to read so I watch the dub and alot of the times dub isn't bad. Sadly tv dubs give dubs a bad name, alot of the DVD dubs are very good and close to the japanese. Subtitiles come in handy for shows like Sailor Moon or other dubbed shows from TV.
